Consistent and comparable moderation

All South Australian teachers have been making standards-based assessment decisions since we moved to Performance Standards in the SACE, and Achievement Standards in the Australian Curriculum. All students deserve assessment decisions that are consistent and comparable. However, teacher judgment of student evidence often varies a lot within and between schools.

This two-part masterclass will support teachers to understand the underlying principles of working in a standards-based assessment, model and the critical role that moderation plays in the integrity of our judgments.

The morning session will explore different forms of moderation and empower participants with the skills to facilitate moderation activities in their school.

The afternoon session will involve a simulated social moderation activity, which will allow participants to collaboratively make judgments on student evidence against state and national standards.

Participants can register for the half-day seminar in the morning or the full-day masterclass covering both the principles and practice of social moderation.

Participants are encouraged to bring along their own student samples to contribute to the discussion.
